Roofing Aggregates
Roofing aggregates (sometimes referred to as 'roofing gravel') are versatile materials that play a crucial role in the functionality, protection, and aesthetics of roofing systems. Sourced from natural and recycled materials, roofing aggregates are used primarily in flat and low-slope roofing to provide ballast, protection, drainage, fire resistance, and sound insulation.
Roofing aggregates consist of granular particles applied to the surface of certain roofing systems, especially built-up roofs. Common materials include:
- Crushed stone
- Washed Gravel (naturally rounded)
- Slate chips
Roofing aggregates are typically embedded in hot asphalt or adhesive layers to form a protective surface.
Common Applications include:
- Flat and low-slope commercial roofs
- Green roofs (as part of drainage and growing media systems)
- Ballasted roofing systems (where aggregates hold down roofing membranes)
- Cool roofs (using light-colored aggregates to reflect heat)
Roofing Aggregates are available by the bag or in bulk.
